Circulus Naturalis

Title: Circulus Naturalis
Artists: Michelle Angel and Katie Mackey
Statement: Circulus Naturalis is a natural flowering mandala reflecting the Earth’s and the artwork’s impermanence and that beauty exists only briefly. Each object and symbol in a mandala has a specific space and significance, just as all life on Earth. Our artwork highlights the magnificence of depth and variety of color, shapes, and textures found in nature and represents the fact that both the planet where the materials were found and the artwork itself are unique and beautiful yet temporary and ephemeral. Created November 2015 at Stetson University, the piece is inspired by Andy Goldsworthy and Kathy Klein and is constructed of various found and purchased natural and artificial flowers, leaves, branches, sticks, mosses, and seeds.
